Fall time buzz

Kim Gardner

August and September really flew by, but I had fun in the studio playing around with some new ideas for my winter merch too. I have been testing out some new earring designs, took on some fun commission work, in addition to making a sweet his and her set of mugs (with the cobalt inlay) for a special wedding gift.

More recently I have been toiling away on mugs and just last week I picked up some old soda crates to work on a new display for my upcoming market season.

I have had a very emotional month but one big highlight was attending and competing in the Anyhow Studio Most Excellent Pottery Throw Down and winning one of the challenges. Its always great with this muddy little community gets together!

I am adding some new fun plate shapes into production and bringing some fun decal decoration into the mix and soon, I will be introducing you all to some screen printing elements in my work as well. These backspace mugs were my first exploration into screen printing with ceramics but funny enough, before I dipped my hands into clay I had a basement screen printing set up so its nice to see this application/process is so accessible for a 3D object thanks to EZ screens!

The Fall is also my favorite time for Mushrooming! The past few weeks have been a great time for finding all finds of mushrooms and I have had a few first finds for me including the beef tong and orange peel fungus. I also found some great turkey tail to harvest for some sculpture projects I’m dreaming up.

For foraging and cooking inspiration I find I am often checking out what the Forager Chef is doing. If you haven’t seen what Alan is doing I highly recommend checking him out.

The fall also brings in a heavy push of events so work with Keanes is full swing for a little while longer with the last events of the year, but here are some set-ups from the past few weeks.
