The Campground
Kim GardnerShare
This journey was inspired by Jeff Brauws, “Readymades: American roadside artifacts”. It features photos of houses, barns, trucks, campers, as well as signs and abandoned businesses.
While the book presents a collection of rather lifeless, abandoned campers, I wanted these sculptures to feel a little more hopeful, with the hope to brighten and bring a sense of place and homeliness to the structure.
The process of creating beckons me to consider my idea of the home, adding the mailbox was a natural progression thinking about keeping in touch with our loved ones wherever we roam.
In this time of online existence and the camper, schoolie, mobile home life I hope this piece holds a place for conversations on living and dwellings as well as forging real connections.
